On a dark desert highway….

Despite a lack of cool wind in anyone’s hair, the Strakka Racing team can be forgiven for merrily humming the tune to Hotel California in Bahrain tonight, after another impressive performance in Free Practice 2 – setting the top FIA World Endurance Championship for Privateers’ time for the second session in a row.

In the pitch desert darkness, air and track temperatures were still 30 and 31ºC respectively as FP2 began at 8.30pm local time, and they were to stay that way throughout the 90-minute session.

With lights ablaze aboard the Honda Performance Development ARX-03a in anger for the first time since Le Mans, Jonny Kane left the pit road first to experience the Bahrain circuit at night for the first time.

He completed a perfect 21 laps, before handing over to Danny Watts to carry on and complete the required distance the team needed to analysis the Michelin tyres. After a stop for new rubber, Danny set a 1:48.780 – which was to be the team’s best lap of FP2.

Yet again, only the works cars from Audi and Toyota bettered that time, as Strakka Racing recorded the 4th fastest time overall.

Nick Leventis finished the session off with another exceptionally good performance, ending the session strongly at 10pm local time.

After a good night’s sleep, tomorrow sees Free Practice 3 and Qualifying.
